School is back and it is in full swing, teachers and students started back last Monday on the 5th. Life in Kindergarten hasn't stopped as we enter the third nine weeks, my collaborating teacher and I are starting to prepare for conferences and report cards. As we enter the third nine weeks, my collaborating teacher did DRA's (diagnostic reading assessment) on all our students to see the progress they've made since August/September. After all the students had been tested, we sat down and began to plan guided reading and rearrange groupings based off needs and how often the students needed to be pulled weekly. We have approximately 5 or 6 students who will be pulled twice daily to receive one-on-one reading instruction in the hopes of getting them on level by the end of the nine weeks. Some of the students who are needing extra instruction are learning English as a second language while others are just taking a little longer to develop literacy skills. We've decided to continue to monitor the students closely and track the growth they will continue to make as the weeks progress.
Content coaching is now in full swing as well, literacy is my first focus and I have gone through one cycle already. My focus for literacy is including more formative assessments as well as stating objectives and essential questions before starting instruction. Brian will continue to observe my lessons to see if I am making growth within my own areas of struggle.
This semester is already looking like it is going to be amazing and full of learning, I'm excited for the weeks ahead.
And that's all for this week,
Ms. Brookes
