This past week was Dr. Martin Luther King Junior day, last year in second grade this was a bigger day for teaching and discussion. Kindergarten is a much different story, segregation and racism are tough topics to teach when you have little eyes squinting at you at the idea that people could and did something so horrible. We did BrainpopJr's, we read books about him, and we watched a movie, we wrote about our dreams for the world and what we wanted to be when we grow up but somehow I'm left with the feeling that they didn't really get the impact of what it is. I'm still not sure how it should look in the classroom.
With only 5 weeks until the NAPDS conference, we are continuing to work on the parts of our projects. This week we completed the rationale and context for our individual inquiries, next week we're starting data collection and interpreting our data. As I've started tracking my data and looking at the behavior patterns of my students I'm beginning to see some trends but I'm still not sure what those mean or how I can use within my inquiry question.
And that's all for this week,
Ms. Brookes
