Ms. Brookes Writing Center!
Picture One:Description:
This picture shows what my station for my writing center will look like. The board above the table would be used for anchor charts, new ideas, showing student work, or the content being worked on in writing. On the table below, there would be shelves and cubbies for different colored paper and things. Rationale: My reasoning behind this is because I want a area in my classroom specifically for students to write in. I believe this could be useful for the daily five and having students rotate to a different stations such as a writing center. This station would also be useful because it can be adapted to each new concept and it can house the older concepts for students to use when writing. |
Picture Two:Description:
This picture shows some of the organization that would be used for the writing station. Each student has their own writing binder with student specific word walls or charts to better support them where they are struggling. Also shown in this picture are pencils with the writing process at eye level. Rationale: I choose to use individual student binders at the writing station because it doesn't allow for students to lose their work. The binder can also have tabs for different types of writing and will allow for students work to be organized. It will make for pulling samples and showing parents or administrators. I choose the also have the writing process at eye level for students to track where they are in the process. I would like to have clothes pins with each students names so when they start a piece they watch as they progress! |
Picture Three:Description:
A little peak into something that will be on the back cover of each students writing binder. This is a editing checklist that students will use when they get to the editing part of the writing cycle. Within the writing station, there will be dry erase markers for students to use for this checklist. Rationale: I really loved the idea of students using this checklist to help them edit and that this checklist can go for any grade! (With some modifying) I choose this to allow students to become more independent for the editing stage of writing and that if I wanted to leave them something specific to work on for that piece of writing, there is space to do so. |
Picture Four:Description:
All great teachers have some procedures and my writing station will be no different! This list has some basic procedures for students to be reminded of when working at the writing station. Rationale: Even the best of students can get confused or off track at times, I choose to include this list of procedures to allow for any student to keep on track. If a student is unsure of what to do they can look at the list and be reminded of what we do when working at the writing station. |
Picture Five:Description:
In order to shake things up, some days students will be given the option of picking one of the class journals with prompts and writing about that prompt. Rationale: At times teachers can get stuck in a rut of doing the same things day in and day out. I choose this as a fun activity that I can have students do that will allow for me to not get stuck and we can put the journals in the classroom library when they get full! Students will be able to get creative and will (hopefully) be as excited to read their classmates work as I am to read their work. |
